Tips for Using Social Media in Your Services Business

When starting down this road of starting up a junk removal business, I knew that I was going to have to tackle the Social Media animal and find out now only how to use it, but also how to use it effectively within the home services world. Mission accomplished? Not even close! There is so much to learn and there are so many different ways that it can help your business, but the problem is finding the time to learn about the different sites and what it is they can do to help bring traffic and potential customers to your site. Did you miss that key word in there? Time: who has it? Small business owners sure don’t, at least not in the beginning. So, finding the time to use these sites will be tricky. That’s why I came up with a few ideas that will perhaps help you steer the ship of social media while also managing your precious time effectively.

Using Facebook

If you are one of the few people living under a rock and not signed up on Facebook, it’s time to step out of your role as a Caveman for Geico and step into the 21st Century because technology has no intention of slowing down. Facebook is here and it may not be the Wall Street Juggernaut that Zuckerberg thought it was, but it is still a company that attracts more users on a day to day basis only rivaled by Google. So, chances are, if you’re reading this, you are someone that is probably already using Facebook for personal reasons. If so, your Facebook page is just as easy to access and only requires a little bit of maintenance. First, establish a page for your business. Put up some good pictures or use your branding, if you have it, and go get some ‘Likes.’

Copy the link from your Facebook page and put it in your status asking those that are already your friends to ‘Like’ it. Find some friends that you know have a good number of Facebook friends and have them share it for you as well. It’s a good way to get some popularity for your page.

Using Twitter

Similar to Facebook, this is another opportunity for you to go get other people in your service area to give your business some attention. Here, you need to ‘Follow’ other people so that they will follow you as well. Do this from time to time and slowly you will build a Following. An easy way to do this is to include a Follow Tag on your website so any traffic going to your Website has the opportunity to Follow you, which is a way to build your network without doing a ton of work. once you’ve got a few people that you are following and that are following you, drop a couple Tweets from time to time that talks about something your business is up to. Celebrate milestones with your audience. Slowly, but surely, you’ll get acquainted.

LinkedIn – This is a site for professionals and those looking to network with other professionals. however, it’s just one more outlet to maintain those connections that you make on a day to day basis. When you make a contact, exchange business cards or whatever brought you together, go look them up on LinkedIn and it’s just one more way that you will be able to build your network in the social world.

These three things are just a very small portion of what you can do within social media, but it is something that is not too time consuming for a business owner who is already strapped for time. Follow up on these and do a little maintenance and you will be on your way to establishing a social media presence. Once you get started, you will be able to keep going and over time will learn more about the other avenues you can get in.
