We may be a little bit biased in this department, but we’ve put together some reasons why we think shopping small is the way to go! We’re not saying that big companies don’t care. But, small business owners tend to have a lot of pride in their work. Furthermore, small business owners are more likely to be personally attached to the business. That’s why so many small businesses have their last name in the company name!
Small Businesses Create Jobs!
Ok, this might be one of our most important points in this post. Small businesses create local jobs and keep unemployment rates low. According to this NBC article, “the statistics are pretty consistent in showing that 60 percent to 80 percent of all U.S. jobs are created by small businesses.” Isn ‘t that amazing?!
Less overhead, means MORE savings for you.
Small, local businesses usually have less overhead and fees to pay than franchises and larger corporations. What does less overhead and fewer fees mean for you? Savings.
Truth is many franchises try to pass themselves off of “local businesses.” Well, we’re here to tell you that it’s just not the same. Small, local, family-owned have more flexibility on pricing than corporations and franchises.

So, you may not know this but many (if not most) franchises and corporations have their call centers for all locations in one central city. And, that city probably isn’t the one you live in! So, when you call small, local businesses you are getting local people. Want to talk to the owner? Sure! He’s in his office or available to talk to you soon!

This one goes with the point above. But, small number of team members in a local small business allows employees (and customers) to interact more with key decision makers such as the owner or managers. Furthermore, many employees of small businesses are closer with the community and company. Again, we may be a bit biased.

It’s no secret that the skills one attains in the military make people great leaders and entrepreneurs. So, many small businesses are veteran owned. According to the SBA, there is about one veteran-owned firm for every ten veterans, and veteran-owned firms employ 5.8 million individuals.
